If I had a son and he wanted a girl toy instead of a boy toy I might buy him a few but if he has to much girl dolls I would try my best to encourage him because if any other kid sees him playing with a girl doll they might make fun of him.

I think its fine if girls play with cars because anyone from both genders male and female can play with cars because playing with cars is not only a male thing or a female thing its both. I think its not good if boys play with dolls because some other boys or girls might call him names and do other things to make fun of him.

I think the mom is confused and upset because its not an every day thing that boys ask to buy dolls or the mom was confused because she never seen a boy wanting a doll instead of a transformer toy a super hero toy and exc.
